What is it?The Lincoln PTA provides each classroom with a Room Coordinator who supports your child's classroom teacher by coordinating a variety of social and other activities (like field trips, parties, etc.) throughout the school year. Being a Room Coordinator is very rewarding and gives you many opportunities interact with your child's teacher, and to participate in your child's classroom. A Room Coordinator needs to be comfortable soliciting volunteers from the other classroom parents and corresponding with them via e-mail. The Chairperson of this committee is responsible for soliciting the Room Coordinators for each room by attending the "Meet the Teacher" and the "Welcome Tea" events. The Chair is responsible for selecting the Coordinator for each classroom, and then hosting an informational meeting with the Coordinators to explain their responsibilities for the school year. The Chairperson sends e-mail reminders during the year and is available to answer any questions the Coordinators may have throughout the school year. When is it?The Chairperson and Room Coordinator positions run for the whole school year. Volunteers needed?- A Chairperson and/or Co-Chairs to solicit Room Coordinators, train them, send e-mail reminders, and be there to support questions as they may arise.
- Room Coordinators, one parent per classroom who will coordinate events and solicit volunteers for their child's classroom.
How much time does it take? For the Chairperson, the largest part of the workload is at the beginning of the school year, soliciting volunteers and hosting the informational meeting. The remainder of the year is spent responding to any questions and corresponding with the Coordinators via e-mail. The Room Coordinators need to set up a meeting time at the beginning of the school year with your child's teacher to gather dates, times and the number of volunteers needed for all opportunities that occur during the school year for your classroom. This includes things like field trips, class parties, class picnics, and other activities. The Coordinator then creates a schedule of events to give the parents in their class the opportunity to sign up for classroom events, and then assign classroom volunteers in a fair manner. The Coordinators will e-mail classroom parents every couple weeks regarding upcoming activities. It is important to remain flexible. Classroom situations may change at a moment's notice. Room Coordinators must feel comfortable contacting other parents regarding changes to social or other activities that may occur. This role requires some input each month communicating with others via e-mail, and of course some time in the classroom at some of the events.
