Welcome to the Lincoln PTA Website

What is it?

The Welcome Committee is a critical link to new Lincoln families.  For many parents, this will be their first contact with our PTA.  The Welcome Committee hosts functions and activities to welcome new students and their families to Lincoln School.  A list of incoming families is provided to the Chairperson, and a welcome letter is mailed to all new families in May which explains the Welcome Committee and upcoming activities.  They usually schedule several play dates in a nearby park over the summer months so Kindergartners and their parents can meet and get to know each other.  It is not required that the Chair attend all the play dates in the park, however it is certainly nice to have someone there to help facilitate the getting-to-know-you process.

The Welcome Committee also gathers photos of all the incoming children to create a Welcome Board outside the Lincoln school office.

The Welcome Committee also makes a courtesy telephone call to each incoming family to answer any questions they may have about Lincoln School and the PTA.

When is it?

Welcome letters are usually mailed in May, and three play dates are scheduled on staggered dates during the summer months. The Welcome Board is completed during the summer, so it is ready to welcome the new students on their first day of school.

Volunteers needed?

This Committee can be easily handled by a single Chairperson, or two Co-Chairs if you have a friend who'd like to help out.

How much time does it take?

It takes several hours to compile and mail the welcome letters and make the telephone calls, a couple hours to attend each play date, and a few hours to design and put up the Welcome Board.  Most of the work can be done from home and at your convenience for time.
