Fundraising Events

Halloween Carnival – The Lincoln PTA’s largest event, held in late October, for Lincoln families.  Tickets and wristbands are sold for games, activities, food and raffle prizes.  Volunteers needed:  Several sub-event organizers as well as hundreds of volunteers for the day of the carnival. 

Book Fair – A 2 or 3-day event, usually held the week of Thanksgiving, where Lincoln families can buy Scholastic books.  Kids and teachers preview books in advance and create wish lists.  Parents can buy books during Parent/Teacher conference time.  Volunteers needed:  To help with setup, during the fair, and for take down/clean up. 

Lincoln Spirit wear – The PTA sells clothing, jewelry, hair products, etc. that have the Lincoln school name and logo on them.  This committee selects vendors and merchandise, prices items, promotes sales events, manages orders, and organizes the delivery of spirit wear items.  Volunteers needed:  To help with order taking and distribution.  

Market Day – The Bryan Band and Orchestra Boosters Club organizes Market Day for Lincoln school.  Part of the proceeds from Lincoln school orders comes back to our PTA.  Volunteers needed:  Chair to manage orders and others to help on delivery days. 

 

Helping out in the Classroom and School

Music/Art Discovery – Parents direct a music or art session in their child’s classroom.  Materials are provided.  Volunteers needed:  Chair/Co-Chair as well as a parent, for each classroom to teach once a month for an hour. 

Hospitality – The committee hosts several functions throughout the year – for PTA families, teachers and school events.  Volunteers needed:  Chair/Co-Chair as well as volunteers for each event. 

Room Reps – The PTA provides each classroom teacher with a Room Rep volunteer.  The room reps work with the teachers to plan for volunteer opportunities needed to support classroom functions and activities (like field trips, parties, etc.).  Volunteers needed:  Co-Chair as well as a parent for each classroom. 

Welcome Committee – Hosts functions and activities to welcome new students and families to Lincoln.  Volunteers needed:  Co-Chair. 

Health and Safety – Plans, promotes and supports programs and activities related to health and school safety.  Major events are the Walk to School campaign and Vision and Hearing Screening.  Volunteers needed:  Co-Chair and many volunteers during the school year  - usually just a one-time effort for a few hours. 

Teacher Appreciation – Plans, promotes and organizes events during Teacher Appreciation Week (held in the spring).  Volunteers needed:  Co-Chair with some help during the event week. 

Parent Patrol – Parents are needed for a short time before and after school to cross students at the school intersections.  You can volunteer a few days, a week, or month at a time.  Very flexible.

 

Social Programs

Roller Skating/Movie Night/Game Night – The PTA hosts several activities throughout the school year.  Volunteers needed:  Co-Chair and people to help before/during the event. 

Ice Cream Social – The PTAs Back To School event in August for students and teachers.  Volunteers needed:  Co-Chair and parents to help setup, cleanup and serve ice cream. 

Chess Club – A monthly club, run by the PTA, that allows kids to learn and play chess.  Volunteers needed:  Mainly Chair/Co-Chair. 

 

Education Enrichment

Science Olympiad – A unique evening science-related event that provides students with an opportunity to do hands on science experiments.  Volunteers needed: Co-Chair as well as many parents to help out during the event. 

Student Programs – Assemblies – During the school year, the PTA presents several fun and educational assemblies for the school.  Volunteers needed:  Usually the VP and 2nd VP, Programs but other volunteers might be needed. 

Reflections – A National PTA program supported by the Lincoln PTA provides an opportunity for students to explore and learn about various art forms.  Each year a theme is selected and students submit their work in one of four art categories:  Literature, Musical Composition, Photography or Visual Arts.  Volunteers needed:  Chair/Co-Chair to promote contest and results within Lincoln school, submit paperwork, and plan recognition event. 

Destination Imagination – A worldwide program supported by the Lincoln PTA.  Students are assigned to a team for 8-12 weeks to create a unique solution to a Team Challenge, which can have a focus that is theatrical, structural, improvisational, scientific or technical - or a blend of several disciplines. Volunteers needed:  Parents are needed to supervise the team during practice and to chaperone/judge events. 

Character Counts – A committee that works with the principal and teachers to support the kids with character building activities – such as coat drives, food drives, etc.  Volunteers needed:  Co-Chair as well as a few parents to work on projects with the kids. 

Great Books – The PTA supports grade-level “book clubs”.  Training and materials are provided.  Volunteers needed:  Chair/Co-Chair and several parents to meet monthly with book groups. 

 

PTA Support

Calendar – This committee works with the PTA and school to publish the Lincoln school calendar.  Most of the work is done in May/June as the calendars are distributed at the Ice Cream Social and first day of school.  Volunteers needed:  Co-Chair.

Directory – This committee publishes an address and phone directory for Lincoln families.  Most of the work is done in the summer and the early part of the school year.  Volunteers needed:  Co-Chair.

Mane Idea – The Mane Idea is the monthly PTA newsletter.  The editor solicits articles from the PTA officers and committee chairs then formats for email distribution.  No meetings to come to!!  Volunteers needed:  An editor is needed for the year. 

Membership – This committee tracks the membership dues and member list for the Lincoln PTA.  Volunteers needed:  Co-Chair although some additional volunteers might be needed at the Ice Cream Social and First Day of School coffee. 

Website – Webmaster needed to update PTA site.  Can leverage other PTA’s templates.  We haven’t had a viable site in several years!  Until now...

 

 

Other

Serg – A Lincoln PTA member serves as a representative on the PTA Council special education resource committee.  Responsible for attending monthly meetings and providing updates to the Lincoln PTA. 

REACH – A Lincoln PTA member serves as a representative on the PTA Council gifted program committee.  Responsible for attending monthly meetings and providing updates to the Lincoln PTA. 

District 205/Legislative – A Lincoln PTA member attends School Board meetings and provides updates to the Lincoln PTA.  Also received legislative updates from the Illinois and National PTA and communicates actions to Lincoln PTA.

Yearbook – The committee publishes a yearbook for Lincoln families.  Works with the school photographer(s) to obtain school photos, club photos, and candid photos throughout the school year.
